SARAWAKIAN LANGUAGE FOR DUMMIES lolol

Okay, so this post is made for Norfy. 8)

Actually most Sarawak words (that I know of) are based on BM. Just that they’re a bit different lah, pronounciation and spelling wise, sometimes even the meaning can be different. Most of the time you can spot BM words on a BS (bahasa Sarawak) sentence, because Sarawak pipurr also use BM mostly. Just that it’s heavily accented. Norfy, you listen to Matahari right, just read the lyrics and see below XD And analyse and compare.

Examples of some BS words and the meaning in BM, based on Matahari lyrics from KnowNo. Because there are seriously too many words, that I don't know which words to use as examples x_x

Melupak = melupakan
Nak/nok = yang (example: Nok comel ya.)
Nak = kan (example: Betul nak?)
Mpun/empun = punya
Kenak = kenapa
Pat = dapat
Sik ada/sikda = tidak ada/takda
Tauk = tahu
Bingong = bingung
Mun = kalau
Tak (short form of kitak) = awak
Sigek = satu
Mintak = minta
Nutup = menutup
Melok= memeluk
Mek (short form of kamek) = saya¬
Aek = air
Dolok = dahulu
Camtok/macam tok = Camni/macam ni
Kan = akan
Nyayang = menyayangi
Madah (past tense)/padah (present tense) = Cakap
Bulak = tipu
Bah = .. how to explain lol I can’t explain.
Berenti = berhenti
Gne/ginei/macam ne (ne pronounced as nae) = Macam mana
Nya = dia
Mena/benar = benar
Cayak = percaya
Ari-ari = hari-hari
Molah (past tense)/Polah (present tense) = buat
Isik = isi
Camya/macam ya = Camtu/macam itu
Berik = beri
Ajak/Jak = sahaja
Iboh = jangan

Basic
* use formal with strangers or elders, or friends that speak to you in formal
** people in relationships use formal most of the time :x

English: I, Me
BM: Saya (formal), Aku (informal)
BS: Kamek (formal), Aku (informal)

English: You
BM: Awak (formal), Engkau (Informal)
BS: Kitak (formal), Kau (pronounced ka – u instead of kaw like in BM) (Informal)

English: Them, Us
BM: Mereka, Kami
BS: Sidak, Kamek orang

English: Him/Her
BM: Dia
BS: Nya

English: That
BM: Itu
BS: Ya

Numbers, Time, Year
1 = Similar like in BM
2 = Duak
3 ~ 4 = similar like in BM
5 = Lima
6 ~ 10 = similar like in BM.
11-1000 = similar like in BM except when there are 2 and 5, it is pronounced like above.

For number 1, for quantity (things) it’ll be sigek (see-gaek). For 1 person it’ll be sorang.

Example: 12 = duak belas, 22 = duak puluh duak, 2012 = duak ribu duak belas
45 = empat puluh limak, 156 = seratus limak puluh enam, 5555 = limak ribu limak ratus limak puluh limak

Days, Months
Similar like in BM
*some people use ‘Hari -insert number-‘ instead of Isnin, Selasa, dll.
Example: Saturday = Hari enam
